Dalhousie : A charming retreat in solitude - Travel - EzineMark

Dalhousie situated on the slopes of the Dhauladhar range in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, is a popular hill resort that serves as a gateway to the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. Dalhousie is a hub of several ancient Hindu temples, arts, crafts and handicrafts that have been preserved under the longest running single dynasty since the mid-6th century. Bharmour, the ancient capital of this kingdom, is also home to the tribes of Gaddi and Gujjar and has around 84 ancient temples dating back to the 7th-10th century AD. The hill station of Dalhousie is fringed by five hills namely Kathlog, Portreyn, Tehra, Bakrota and Balun.?

A number of picturesque walks run through the oak, pine and deodar forests around the town and offer excellent views of the Chenab, the Ravi and the Beas valleys. Dalhousie has a wide array of sightseeing options from breath taking hills, to beautiful churches, to the thick forests of deodar trees. Dalhousie is known for its many charming church buildings and other landmarks erected by the British, the prominent among them being St. John's Church ( made in 1903 A.D. ), and St. Patrick's Church ( 1909 A.D. ), St Andrew?s Church and ?St Francis Church. St Andrew's Church in Dalhousie is commonly known as the Church of Scotland built in the year 1903 at Baloon by Protestant Christians. St Patrick's Church is yet another church in Dalhousie and is famous being the largest church in Dalhousie.?

Another sightseeing attraction in Dalhousie is a towering peak Dainkund or Dayankund that offers panoramic views of three rivers Beas, Ravi and Chenab. It is an ideal day trip option for those looking forward to a quiet family retreat away from the crowd.

Khajjiar is another charming retreat that makes for an ideal overnight trip or even a short excursion with family. This spot is away from any major towns and is a little paradise in solitude with a small floating island in the centre of a lake. There is a local temple here with a golden dome enshrined with the diety of Khajjinag.?
