Summer Baseball: Post 59 opens season in style

J.J. Branch allowed one unearned run in five innings and struck out five to get the win as Milford opened its season with a 9-1 victory at Main South.

Matt Ferrelli led Post 59?s offense by going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Matt Gerard reached base in all four of his plate appearances and scored twice, and Scott Hubener stole two bases and scored twice.

Milford scored four runs in the fifth inning to blow the game open. Post 59 is scheduled to play at North County tonight, but that could change based on the MIAA baseball tournament.

FRAMINGHAM 6, NORTHBRIDGE 4: Kevin Murphy went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI, and threw out a runner at the plate to end the game as Framingham Legion opened its season with a win over visiting Northbridge.

Matt Cronin had two RBIs and scored a run for Framingham, which also got a key RBI from Greg Hemmer. Kevin Lacy got the win after throwing 92 pitches and striking out four in 5 1/3 innings.

Framingham plays at North County today (5:30 p.m.).

WALPOLE 5, FRANKLIN 4: Brendan Skidmore had two doubles, scored twice and knocked in a pair of runs in Franklin Legion?s season-opening loss at Walpole in Zone 6 West.

Jake O?Rourke went 2-for-4 with two runs for Post 75, while Brian Campbell had two hits and an RBI triple.

Franklin hosts Norwood tomorrow.

NATICK 3, WESTON 0: Brady Furdon pitched a complete-game three-hitter with five strikeouts as Natick Post 107 opened its season with a home win over Zone 5 rival Weston.

Derek Kane, Derek Reddy and Jack Turner knocked in Natick?s three runs.

Post 107 hosts Watertown tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m.

ASHLAND 4, FRANKLIN 3: Nick Cunningham pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts as Ashland beat Franklin in Senior Babe Ruth on Saturday.

STAN MUSIAL

FRAMINGHAM 4, WESTFORD 2: Matt Anderson pitched six innings with seven strikeouts as the Framingham A?s beat the Westford Willows in Stan Musial action.

James Patelis went 2-for-3 and made a great catch in center field, and Ryan Tkowski knocked in the go-ahead run in the fifth inning.
