1st annual Fall Poetry Series presented by Real Life Poets and Railroad Park begins August 26th
BIRMINGHAM ? Real Life Poets, Inc. and Railroad Park are pleased to announce?FlowTactics on the Tracks!, a diverse, community-sponsored series designed to provide a platform for young artists and highlight the restorative and transformative power of poetry. Local groups and organizations are also encouraged to attend as community vendors. Current vendors confirmed include Youth Towers, The Flora Pearl Foundation, Desert Island Supply Co. and the Birmingham Public Library. Flow Tactics on the Tracks! is free of charge and open to the community. This 1st annual Fall Poetry Series will be hosted by John Paul Taylor, director andco-founder of Real Life Poets, Inc.. Event features include author and poet Mimi Latoine, guest co-host J. Washington a.k.a. Poetic Beauty of Clay-Chalkville High School, and Birmingham-based band Dean?s List for musical performances. The Mattie C. Stewart Foundation will be recognized during the first event in the series for it?s longstanding commitment to the community. The first event of the series will take place on Sunday, August 26th at Railroad Park.
Part one of the three-part series is ?We Are One Voice: a Celebration of Diversity? on August 26th, followed by ?She Speaks: a Tribute to Women of Poetry on September 30th, and culminating with the grand finale ?People?s Choice? on October 28th which highlights the artists of Real Life Poets, Inc. Coats and winter-wear will be collected for Real Life Poet?s annual Coats for the Cold drive. Amber Thomas, 2011 recipient of the Real Life Poet Youth Poetry stipend and student at the Kansas City Art Institute, will donate a visual art piece to be auctioned at the event. Proceeds will go to benefit the organization?s annualYouth Poetry Scholarship Stipend. All donations are tax-deductible.

(501c3),?Flow Tactics on the Tracks! celebrates community and artistic diversity by serving as a platform for local artists and organizations, showcasing live music, readings and other performances, a silent community art auction, and other activities to attendees of all ages.

Railroad Park is a 19-acre park in Birmingham, Alabama, that opened in the fall of 2010. It was designed by landscape architect Tom Leader and built by Birmingham-based Brasfield & Gorrie. The park lies immediately south of the Norfolk Southern and CSX rail lines through downtown Birmingham. It stretches from 14th Street to 18th Street along First Avenue South. UAB Hospital and Children?s Hospital of Alabama are several blocks south of the park. The park is a public facility owned by the City of Birmingham and managed by the non-profit Railroad Park Foundation. Hailed as ?Birmingham?s Living Room,? Railroad Park provides a historically rich venue for local recreation, family activities, concerts and cultural events.
